In order to use phones brought from abroad in Turkey, the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number must be registered. This registration process is mandatory for the phone to be used legally.
Phones brought from abroad have a legal usage right of 120 days. During this period, the phone can be used without IMEI registration. If IMEI registration is not done at the end of 120 days, the phone becomes unusable.
Different strategies can be applied for different situations:
Register the IMEI immediately with your current line. You only pay the registration fee.
Wait 120 days, then register. Logical for short-term use.
Use your existing old line. IMEI registration is not done, limited use.
Get a new SIM card and register. New line opening costs are added.
